Up 2-0 in the series, the New York Yankees will seek to advance to the American League Championship Series when they face the Minnesota Twins in Game 3 of their divisional series.

Having lost the first two games by a combined score of 18-6, the Twins have had a series to forget. The Yankees have completely dominated Minnesota’s ninth, and with Dominican Luis Severino on the mound, they present themselves as big favorites to spin their third straight win and reach the next round of the MLB postseason.

Nationals Go Against History

On start-up, all statistics are against the Minnesota Twins. To begin with, since 2004 the Twins have been in this game with a run of 15 consecutive losses in the postseason. Also, since the format of the Series Divisionales was changed 20 years ago, only three teams have made it to the next round after losing the first two games of the visiting series. Finally, against the Yankees, the Twins have lost 15 of their last 17 Playoff games, and their only two victories were with retired Johan Santana on the hill.

Severino To be Yankees’ Opening Pitcher

However, a victory for the Twins is not out of the question. It is worth mentioning that, although it looked very good throughout the back of the regular season, pitcher Luis Severino missed most of the regular season with a shoulder injury. Historically, Severino has never been a very successful pitcher in the postseason and will be looking to improve his ERA of 6.26 in six postseason opener games.

Interestingly, Severino already has experience against the Twins in the postseason. It was in the 2017 American League Wild Card Series, in a game where Severino allowed three runs and only got one out.

Expert Prediction

Despite the dominance of the New York Yankees in this series, it gives us reason to believe that the Minnesota Twins have enough to win.
